About The Position

This is the career/senior level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees at this level manage work in engineering areas of specialization, with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. They are fully competent in use of concepts and procedures. They identify problems, develop solutions, and take actions to resolve. Senior Nuclear Engineer represents a level at which career may stabilize for many years. This position will support the New Megawatts initiative within the Nuclear Generation Department including the power uprate projects at Catawba, McGuire, and Brunswick. This position will offer an opportunity to develop a diverse understanding of power plant specific systems, layouts, and design basis while working on multi-year projects supporting exciting new nuclear generation projects. This may include plant walkdowns, vendor interfaces, development of program/project documents, assistance with funding packages, schedule development, and other needs consistent with large projects. The position will be located at the Brunswick Nuclear Plant. This position will report to an engineering manager in the power uprate organization within the Strategic Capital Engineering Group. This position supports a hybrid work posture with work split between in the office and remote. The position is a normal office working environment that will involve onsite plant visits based on project needs.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or state registration as a Professional Engineer.
  • A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.
  • Minimum of 4 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer (for Nuclear Engineer III).
  • Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer (for Senior Nuclear Engineer).
  • Experience must have been attained at a "Fully Meets" performance level.
  • Must be badged for nuclear site unescorted access or able to obtain unescorted access within reasonable time frame.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • This role requires the ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future.
