About The Position

The Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer III provides advanced technical expertise to ensure nuclear operations are conducted safely and in compliance with applicable nuclear criticality safety (NCS) requirements. This role is responsible for performing and reviewing criticality safety evaluations, supporting facility operations, and ensuring compliance with DOE, NRC, and applicable industry standards. The position works with moderate supervision and serves as a technical resource for operations, engineering, and safety personnel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of practical experience.
  • Demonstrated experience performing and reviewing criticality safety evaluations.
  • Extensive knowledge of DOE requirements, ANSI/ANS standards, and NQA-1 principles.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • US Citizenship Required

Responsibilities

  • Perform and document nuclear criticality safety evaluations (NCSEs).
  • Analyze fissile material processes to ensure compliance with approved criticality safety limits, controls, and assumptions.
  • Support development, implementation, and maintenance of criticality safety controls, including engineered and administrative controls.
  • Review operating procedures, design changes, work packages, and facility modifications for criticality safety impacts.
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight to operations, engineering, maintenance, and manufacturing personnel.
  • Participate in hazard analyses, safety basis activities, and integrated safety management processes.
  • Support facility operations through field walk-downs, observations, and assessments.
  • Prepare, review, and approve NCS documentation, calculations, and technical reports.
  • Support audits, assessments, and event investigations related to nuclear criticality safety.
  • Mentor junior criticality safety engineers.
