NPI Engineer

Ammortal Inc•Boston, MA
•$125,000 - $147,970•Remote

About The Position

The NPI Engineer owns the transition of the Ammortal Chamber, a complex electromechanical product, from engineering development to repeatable, high-quality production as the company scales manufacturing. The role is the primary technical interface between Product Engineering and contract manufacturing partners, driving manufacturing readiness from early design through prototype, validation, pilot, and production builds. This hands-on role coordinates across engineering, manufacturing, quality, operations, supply chain, suppliers, and contract manufacturers. It leads design-for-manufacturing and assembly efforts, production planning, documentation and configuration control, manufacturing quality readiness, issue resolution, ramp metrics, and serviceability considerations. The role is remote with some travel and offers a salary range of $125,000–$147,970, health, dental, and vision insurance coverage, and equity options.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline.
  • At least 4 years of NPI, manufacturing, or product-development experience with complex electromechanical products.
  • Demonstrated experience taking physical products from engineering prototypes through production launch.
  • Experience working directly with contract manufacturers and external suppliers.
  • Strong understanding of DFM/DFA, BOMs, ECOs, drawings, assembly processes, fixtures, tooling, production testing, and configuration control.
  • Experience supporting engineering validation, design validation, pilot, and production builds.
  • Working knowledge of PFMEA, control plans, root-cause analysis, 8D-style problem solving, and manufacturing quality methods.
  • Ability to work across Mechanical, Electrical, Firmware, Systems, Quality, Operations, and Supply Chain.
  • Ability to take ownership of the engineering-to-production handoff and drive problems to closure.
  • Ability to guide design decisions using knowledge of manufacturing processes and configuration control.
  • Ability to communicate with contract manufacturers and suppliers while maintaining clear quality expectations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with low-to-medium-volume complex electromechanical equipment.
  • Regulated-product experience.
  • Experience with manufacturing-test strategy and programming or calibration processes.
  • Supplier qualification experience.
  • Experience tracking yield, defects, and cycle time during ramp.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary engineering interface with contract manufacturers and key manufacturing suppliers.
  • Coordinate prototype, pilot, and production builds with internal engineering teams and external manufacturing partners.
  • Develop and maintain the NPI plan from prototype builds through production launch and ramp.
  • Coordinate engineering builds and control build objectives, configurations, materials, documentation, and issues.
  • Lead DFM/DFA reviews with Mechanical, Electrical, Firmware, suppliers, and manufacturing partners; identify manufacturing risks and drive their resolution before production release.
  • Develop manufacturing requirements for assembly processes, fixtures, tooling, programming, calibration, and production testing.
  • Develop manufacturing-test strategy with Electrical and Firmware Engineering.
  • Coordinate BOM readiness, approved components, manufacturing documentation, drawings, work instructions, and engineering changes with appropriate owners.
  • Ensure engineering changes are communicated to and implemented by manufacturing partners.
  • Establish production acceptance criteria and manufacturing quality controls with the contract manufacturer.
  • Support PFMEA, control plans, process validation, first-article activities, and production-readiness reviews.
  • Support supplier qualification and technical evaluation of manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain build issue lists and drive root-cause analysis and corrective-action closure.
  • Track yield, defects, rework, cycle time, and manufacturing issues during ramp.
  • Drive serviceability, replaceable-assembly strategy, service disconnects, component identification, maintenance, and field-replacement considerations into product design.
  • Coordinate with Verification, Compliance, and Quality to keep production configurations consistent with validated product configurations.

Benefits

  • 80% of health, dental, and vision insurance covered.
  • 15,000 equity options vesting over 4 years with a 1-year cliff.
