  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, or a related engineering discipline; equivalent directly relevant manufacturing experience may be considered.
  • Three or more years of manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or new product introduction experience in a precision machining environment.
  • Strong understanding of CNC milling and/or turning processes, tooling, workholding, feeds and speeds, and process capability.
  • Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), customer specifications, and technical requirements.
  • Experience creating manufacturing routers, work instructions, process documentation, and production-ready technical packages.
  • Working knowledge of CAD/CAM systems and ERP/MRP data structures.
  • Strong project ownership, organization, communication, and cross-functional problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead new product introduction projects from customer drawing and specification review through process validation, first article inspection, and production handoff.
  • Translate customer requirements into complete manufacturing plans, including routers, bills of material, work instructions, inspection requirements, tooling, fixtures, and outside-processing needs.
  • Review drawings, models, specifications, purchase orders, and quality clauses for manufacturability, technical risk, and compliance before release to the floor.
  • Develop and optimize CNC machining processes for complex precision components, selecting equipment, workholding, cutting tools, sequences, and inspection methods.
  • Coordinate prototypes, pilot runs, and first production lots; track readiness, resolve launch issues, and communicate status, risks, and recovery actions.
  • Partner with Quality to support AS9102 first article inspections, control plans, PFMEAs, capability studies, nonconformance resolution, and customer approval requirements.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain and vendors on raw material, special processes, tooling, and purchased components needed for successful launch execution.
  • Establish standard cycle times, labor assumptions, process yields, and production costs; compare actual results with quoted expectations and close gaps.
  • Use root-cause analysis and continuous-improvement methods to stabilize new processes, reduce scrap and rework, and improve throughput.
  • Maintain accurate engineering and ERP records, revision control, and objective evidence required by Midwest Precision's quality management system.
  • Provide clear production handoff and technical support to programmers, setup personnel, machinists, inspectors, and supervisors.
  • Complete other duties that support new product launch, manufacturing performance, and customer requirements.
