About The Position

Fenner Precision Polymers has an exciting internship opportunity with the Fenner New Product Textile Engineering Team at Manheim/Lititz, PA. The successful candidate will be responsible for product/process/testing needs for the textile product category. As part of the New Product Development Team, you will collaborate with various departments to conduct lab testing on technical textiles, 3D model new fixtures or product models, develop proficiency in emerging technologies like AI-enabled tools, learn components and processes of rapier looms, update technical documentation, perform product validation (mechanical properties), create 3D models of weave patterns, and work on R&D projects involving alternative fabrics.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to 3D model in Solidworks
  • Demonstrated ability to record and interpret measured properties of lab tests
  • Proven skills in mechanical engineering principles – stress, strain, coefficient of friction, etc.
  • Proven skills in statistical analysis of test results
  • Working knowledge of basic lab equipment and software – MTS, hot presses, Microsoft package, etc.
  • Working knowledge of novel problem solving
  • A minimum of 2 years of college in a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct lab testing on technical textiles according to product development needs
  • 3D model new fixtures or product models to enhance product understanding
  • Develop proficiency in emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools, to support project work, data analysis, content creation, and operational efficiency under the guidance of team leaders
  • Learn components and processes of rapier looms
  • Update technical documentation to new format
  • Product validation – mechanical properties like tensile, tear, EPI, PPI, weight, etc.
  • 3D modeling of weave patterns
  • R&D projects
  • Explore alternative fabrics – quartz, MWPE, etc. – applications, testing
