About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will function independently or in collaboration with the Covenant HealthCare physician team to provide comprehensive Gastroenterology care to patients with digestive system diseases and conditions by conducting patient assessments, developing treatment plans, and performing procedures. Requirements

Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited school.
Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner and Controlled Substance in the State of Michigan.
BLS certification required.
Knowledge in the specialty of the practice for position.
Knowledge of acute and chronic care protocols, administration of medications and treatments, delivery of care and documentation of care.
Computer literate, must be able to work with an EMR system while providing patient care.
Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain a wide variety of internal and external cooperative working relationships.
Analytical skills necessary to plan, develop, and administer care to a wide variety of patients.
Ability to assess and treat patients with limited history and background in a timely manner.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Respond calmly and effectively in emergencies.
Make decisions within scope of training and practice.

Nice To Haves

Experience in gastroenterology, care management, case management, or chronic disease preferred.

Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including medical histories and physical examinations.
Perform procedures within scope of practice, such as central line management, arterial line placement and interpretation, intubation support, suturing and wound care, chest tube management, lumbar punctures (where credentialed).
Diagnose and manage gastrointestinal conditions, including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcer disease, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), hepatitis and other liver diseases, pancreatic disorders, celiac disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, and constipation and motility disorders.
Assist with and provide pre- and post-procedure management for colonoscopies, upper endoscopies (EGD), capsule endoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), eRCP procedures (where applicable).
Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic imaging, and laboratory studies.
Prescribe medications and treatments within the scope of licensure and facility.
Maintain timely, accurate, and complete documentation regarding patient information, assessments, care plans, and interventions in the electronic medical record.
Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, medications, lifestyle modifications, and preventive care.
Counsel patients on nutrition, dietary management, and disease prevention strategies.
Coordinate referrals, consultations, and continuity of care with primary care providers and specialists.
Work with Manager in developing clinical protocols for practice.
Participate in departmental education initiatives, quality improvement projects, and professional development activities.
Work independently or in collaboration with physicians and other interdisciplinary team members.
Maintains confidentiality of patient information according to established practice policies and government regulations, such as HIPAA.
Maintains professional competency through ongoing training and continuing education.
Performs other duties as assigned.
