Novice Swim Coach
About The Position
Provide leadership for Novice Swim Team while also serving in a front-line lead role. Instructs classes or leads recreation activities ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience. Creates daily plans for classes and activities within established guidelines and curriculum. Oversees the safety, comfort and progress of participants. Adapts activities as needed to meet the abilities and needs of individuals. Prepares equipment, materials and supplies required for conducting activities. Sets up, takes downs and cleans-up after class as required. Completes required class records, progress reports, certificates, etc. Communicates effectively with the public including providing accurate information related to work assignment and responding to patron and parent questions and concerns. Respond to accidents and incidents according to procedure. Acts as a Mandatory Reporter; reports incidents of child abuse/neglect. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Strong Knowledge of: Learning development, stroke technique, water safety, program levels and teaching methods, practices and progressions.
- Strong personal swimming skills.
- Strict adherence to safety guidelines related to assignment.
- Effective supervision and customer service best practices; and Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures for assignment.
- Demonstrate leadership, organizational, planning and problem solving skills;
- Lead, motivate and direct others;
- Exercise initiative and independent decision making;
- Demonstrate a high level of competency and expertise in program area;
- Actively participate in all activities
- Demonstrate organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrate planning and problem-solving skills;
- Communicate effectively with others both verbally and in writing
- Work cooperatively with others and create a positive, constructive, and respectful relationship with staff and the general public;
- Manage emergency/crisis situations
- Operate computer programs as well as staying current with new programs and operate common office equipment;
- Work independently with minimum direction while also working as part of a team and collaborating with others.
- Currently attending high school, or High school diploma or equivalent;
- Must be at least 16 years of age;
- Some previous work, training/certification or volunteer experience related to position; OR Any satisfactory combination of education, experience and training.
- Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or American Coaches Certification Level 1.
