PACCAR is currently seeking a Buyer to join our North America Materials team. This position is available to be located in Kirkland, WA or Denton, TX. The Buyer will place orders with suppliers for production material to be used in the assembly of trucks at four manufacturing plants. This role involves working closely with Purchasing, Engineering, Suppliers, and other cross-functional teams to ensure that all material arrives at the plants according to guidelines. The Buyer will determine production requirements for assigned groupings of manufactured or purchased parts, issue purchase and/or manual orders to suppliers to meet manufacturing schedules, and maintain proper inventory levels while navigating material planning issues. Responsibilities also include hosting conference calls with internal and external personnel to resolve supply chain disruptions and EDI discrepancies, planning and coordinating the introduction of new parts, and reducing current inventory in conjunction with Plant/Division Engineering, Materials and Purchasing personnel, Marketing, and Assembly. The role requires forecasting orders during times of low visibility utilizing various reporting, negotiating delivery, expediting, or other special charges with suppliers, and serving as a focal point for Materials’ supplier management, monitoring supplier quality, service, and delivery issues. The Buyer will communicate and escalate issues, information, and resolution to Materials Planner at the plant(s) and/or Corporate Commodity Manager, Directors, and Senior Leadership. Additionally, the Buyer will provide allocations for highly constrained material across multiple production facilities to prevent impacts to production and work independently to resolve difficult supply chain and material planning situations. The role involves initiating and establishing EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) programs in cooperation with Materials Planners at the plants, PACCAR MIS and Kenworth suppliers, and maintaining the EDI working set for use by Kenworth & Peterbilt suppliers and plant planners. Negotiation of packaging, sub-assembly, and program charges with suppliers, and establishing and improving JIT (Just-in-Time) and material flow improvement programs with Assembly, Accounting, Materials, and suppliers are also key responsibilities. The Buyer will review inventory levels for excess, surplus, or obsolete accumulations and initiate or recommend disposal, and coordinate special projects/programs as required. Up to 10% travel can be expected.
