About The Position

Under the supervision of the school Principal/Administrator, this role involves monitoring, assisting, and supervising students during their lunch period. The paraeducator will also be responsible for cleaning tables and seating areas according to District sanitization protocols. For elementary level positions, this includes monitoring and caring for students during their designated recess period, both indoors and outdoors. The goal is to facilitate the smooth operation of the lunchroom or playground and provide other building non-instructional support duties.

Requirements

  • High school graduate, or equivalent, required.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work directly with students in an appropriate and professional manner and to give directions as needed.
  • Patience and ability to effectively interact and maintain a professional rapport with others, including students, teachers, parents, and other staff members in the district.
  • Has flexibility to work independently and demonstrate use of good judgment, especially when called upon to neutralize inappropriate student behavior.
  • Possesses the necessary social and academic skills to promote cultural differences.
  • Regular, reliable and punctual attendance required.
  • High school diploma.
  • Ability to interact with others.
  • Demonstrated or competence for Assigned responsibility.
  • Excellent command of the English language, in written and spoken word.

Nice To Haves

  • First-Aid and CPR certification, preferred.
  • Has the physical agility to lift and carry play equipment or cleaning materials; stand for extended periods of time; bend, kneel, crouch or reach to assist students; and tolerate working in the outdoors during cold and hot temperatures.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and assists students at playtime (recess), on the playground, and/or in the lunchroom to ensure harmonious, orderly and safe experience.
  • Responsible for table cleanup per published guidelines.
  • Under the direction of the building or program administrator, and per Article 3.O, of the RPEA Master Agreement, support the dispensation, and documentation of medication as outlined under district regulations, the district nurse’s instruction, and the student’s Medical Management Plan.
  • Building type support may be required per specific building needs, e.g. other student supervision of non-instructional periods such as student arrival or dismissal, open media center for independent student homework periods, building support for elementary science classroom materials set-up, etc.
  • Periodically may be directed with organizing materials and assisting staff with projects.
  • May perform work of the general nature which assists with the smooth operation of the building such as the delivery of materials to building personnel, supervision of hallway traffic at the entrances and exits, and assisting during emergency building situations.
  • Performs such other duties and/or functions as deemed necessary by the principal or building administrator.
