About The Position

Supervises maintenance personnel in the painting and body repair of non-revenue vehicles to help ensure smooth day-to-day operations and safety.

Requirements

Associate's Degree in a related field or equivalent training from a recognized trade school
Four years of relevant experience in body repair and painting of automobiles and other equipment, including two years of relevant experience at the lead capacity
Must comply with all California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and personal protective gear including, but not limited to, respirators, eye and hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required
Valid California Class C Driver license
Must be able to work on any one of three shifts and weekends
Knowledge of theories and practices of body repair and painting of non-revenue vehicles, including collision shop workflow, automotive refinishing, surface preparation, color blending, and spray application techniques
Knowledge of tools, materials, methods, and practices used in the automotive body repair and the painting trade
Knowledge of automotive repairs, cost estimates, and frame straightening processes
Knowledge of safe and proper use of tools, equipment, and materials
Knowledge of accident investigation procedures and practices
Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations governing body repair and painting of non-revenue vehicles
Knowledge of project planning and budgeting techniques
Knowledge of principles of supervision
Skill in planning, organizing, and monitoring the work of a vehicle body repair and painting work unit
Skill in reading and understanding schematics
Skill in interacting professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives
Skill in communicating effectively orally and in writing
Skill in using painting tools and equipment
Ability to exercise judgment and creativity in making conclusions and recommendations
Ability to develop and maintain files for payroll, attendance, and budgets
Ability to operate computers, Maintenance and Material Management (M3) program terminals, and diagnostic equipment
Ability to meet productivity demands
Ability to analyze situations, identify problems, and recommend solutions
Ability to understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, contracts, budgets, and labor/management agreements
Ability to supervise subordinates
Ability to travel to offsite locations
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English

Responsibilities

Plans, organizes, schedules, and assigns paint and body repair tasks for non-revenue vehicles to personnel
Estimates labor and repair costs
Develops and maintains computer and manual files for payroll, attendance, project budgets, and vehicle repairs
Ensures compliance and promotes aspects of the Environmental Management System to employees and coworkers
Implements and maintains safety programs
Conducts meetings on safety, proper tool usage, equipment upgrade projects, and other related topics
Investigates and reports accidents and injuries
Follows up on ordered parts, equipment, and supplies
Conducts first-level disciplinary and grievance hearings
Conducts vehicle inspections to assess damage or malfunctions, identifies issues, schedules necessary repairs, and supports staff in resolving problems
Reviews and approves finished bodywork and paint repairs
Inspects equipment and tools to ensure they are in proper working condition
Prepares various reports, develops presentations, and manages special development projects
Supervises and trains subordinates
Accounts for subordinate and personal compliance with all of Metro's safety rules, polices, and procedures
May be required to perform other related job duties
