About The Position

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry within the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University is seeking Student Research Assistants. This position is part of the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program, which focuses on Biochemistry, Chemistry, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics, Public Health, Statistics, and Semiconductors/Materials Research for Ohio Five College Students. Participants will gain valuable experience working in an R-1 university laboratory alongside senior faculty, OSU undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows, providing an ideal introduction to the graduate school research experience. The internship culminates in a capstone event where students present their research to OSU faculty and faculty/academic deans from their home institution, followed by a presentation at their college early in the fall semester. The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college at the university, hosting 81 majors across 38 departments and over 2,000 faculty and staff, offering students unique opportunities to study with leading experts in their fields.

Requirements

• Students may be from any major, but are expected to have completed foundational coursework in the proposed area of research
• Successful completion of a background check (for final candidates)
• A drug screen or physical may be required during the post offer process

Responsibilities

• Arranges, cleans, and/or maintains research or lab equipment
• Designs, repairs, and/or test research or lab equipment
• Provides assistance in performing tests or investigations using research equipment
• Performs other assistance in support of a research program
