About The Position

The Vollum Institute is a privately endowed research institute at Oregon Health & Science University dedicated to basic research that will lead to new treatments for neurological and psychiatric diseases. Vollum scientists have broad-ranging interests that coalesce around molecular neurobiology and cellular physiology. Their work has transformed the field of neuroscience and, in particular, have provided important advances in the study of synaptic transmission, neuronal development, neurotransmitter transporters, ion channels and the neurobiology of disease. The student will be working in basic science research, may involve working with lab chemicals, and using research equipment under supervision.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in or on vacation from or is otherwise registered in: High school; OR Undergraduate program (minimum 6 credit hours).
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to be self-motivated, to prioritize effectively and achieve deadlines.
  • Ability to gather, compile, analyze and maintain, in a range of formats, information from a variety of sources, including research publications, web sources, and internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to exercise discretion when dealing with issues of a sensitive nature and to maintain research integrity.

Nice To Haves

  • Student currently working on a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience in research is highly desired.
  • Knowledge and application of gathering, compiling, and reporting research information for a peer-reviewed publication.

Responsibilities

  • Sample processing, assays, cell/tissue culture, animal studies, library research, data collection, recording transcription.
  • Cleaning/sterilizing lab instruments and surfaces.
  • Stocking lab benches with supplies.
