The Non-Invasive Cardiovascular Technician provides technical skills in obtaining electrocardiograph tracings, routine exercise stress testing, exercise testing with nuclear medicine, and Holter Monitor application and scanning if applicable in specific Non-Invasive Cardiology department.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.
  • Individuals in this position are required to exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers relevant personal information from patient’s record.
  • Prepares and instructs patients on the proper procedures to follow.
  • Transports portable electrocardiograph to hospital units and administers electrocardiograms to inpatients, or to out-patients in the lab area.
  • Performs stress/nuclear stress tests with treadmill, observing tracings for abnormalities.
  • Scans Holter Monitors, observing tracings for abnormalities if applicable.
  • Ensures tests results are placed in proper physician reading box for interpretation.
  • Responsible for proper record keeping, data storage and retrieval.
  • Responsible for cleanliness of equipment, and cleanliness and order of lab area.
  • Notifies appropriate personnel of need for specific lab supplies.
  • Communicates professionally with personnel in the lab and in other areas of the hospital.
  • Trains hospital staff on EKG process and equipment.
  • Attends staff meetings as scheduling permits.
  • Is responsible for reading minutes to obtain information presented if unable to attend.
