About The Position

Under general supervision, the non invasive cardiology technician (AKA EKG technician) will perform all non invasive EKG, stress test and monitoring exams. Provide quality patient care and assist physicians as needed. Must be able to identify basic cardiac arrhythmia's and alert physician as needed.

Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of EKG training program (ROP or equivalent) in EKG and arrhythmia recognition and with documented clinical hours performed in EKG modality.
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED

Responsibilities

  • Perform all non invasive EKG, stress test and monitoring exams.
  • Provide quality patient care and assist physicians as needed.
  • Identify basic cardiac arrhythmia's and alert physician as needed.
  • Query ordered EKG exams in the electronic medical record.
  • Navigate and obtain only necessary information within a patient's medical record to successfully complete exam.
  • Verify electronic results.
  • Navigate within the scheduling system.
  • Perform all necessary duties within the Cardiovascular PACS system.
  • Verify patient's symptoms for appropriate order.
  • Verify and place correct order in the EMR and MUSE.
  • Query or manually enter accurate patient demographics into the EKG cart.
  • Upload all verified EKG's to MUSE.
  • Ensure all records have serial comparison if available.
  • Update records with correct order number and visit number.
  • Route unconfirmed EKG's to appropriate readers in-basket in MUSE.
  • Perform all core and specialized EKG and stress exams with a competency level of 2 or above.
  • Perform all exams according to written protocol and/or department guideline.
  • Ensure Patient receives instructions and understands procedure.
  • Perform EKG and stress exams with minimum baseline artifact.
  • Apply and place leads with 100% accuracy.
  • Coordinate nuclear stress test with Imaging Department.
  • Ensure all necessary documentation is placed in the reader's box in a timely fashion.
  • Verify 2 patient identifiers before beginning exam.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of universal precautions and sterile techniques.
  • Observe the patient, report any changes in status, and initiate appropriate action to ensure a positive outcome.
  • Follow patient's Advanced Directive, if applicable.
  • Follow HIPAA guidelines for PHI as appropriate.
  • Stay current in EKG practices by way of continuing education.
  • Assist in equipment maintenance and document events.
  • Provide assistance and training to floor staff performing EKG's.
  • Effectively troubleshoot or call the help desk for assistance.
