About The Position

The Non-Destruction Inspection Technician (NDI) II inspects aerospace weapon-system components and support equipment for structural integrity using nondestructive inspection methods and performs fluid analysis. The technician determines test methods; prepares fluids and parts; interprets test results; and communicates defects to the repair center. The role also includes analyzing wear-metal reports for engine lubricating oil and other fluids, recommending corrective action, and establishing and monitoring radiation areas and personnel exposure for radiographic operations. The technician performs nondestructive inspections on structures, components, and systems to identify flaws such as cracks, delamination, voids, processing defects, and heat damage. Methods and equipment include penetrant, eddy current, magnetic particle, radiographic, optical, and ultrasonic testing. The role determines component metallurgical information, operates and maintains inspection equipment, performs operator maintenance and service inspections on shop equipment and tools, and ensures lockout/tagout procedures are followed before equipment maintenance. Duties also include silver recovery and handling and disposing of hazardous waste and materials. Other qualified duties may be assigned. The position requires compliance with physical and working-environment demands that include extended periods of walking or standing, climbing, crouching, crawling, reaching, and lifting or moving items weighing at least 50 pounds. The technician may handle dirty parts and lubricants, must wear appropriate PPE, and must pass a respirator physical and fit test. Work may take place in a maintenance shop or outdoors, including drafty, noisy, and dirty conditions, with possible exposure to extreme noise, electrical shock hazards, and moving mechanical parts or vehicles.
