About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Ophthalmic Technical Supervisor, and through collaborative teamwork, provides assistance in the diagnosis and care of ophthalmic patients. This role involves initiating patient work-ups, assisting with minor procedures, maintaining equipment and supplies, and ensuring a clean and safe environment. The position also emphasizes patient advocacy, professional communication, and participation in quality improvement activities.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • CPR Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Initiates patient work-ups in ophthalmology clinics, including visual acuities, pin-hole acuities, deriving past medical and ocular history, confrontational visual field, Amsler, automated and manual lensometry, automated perimetry, Goldmann tonometry, Tono-Pen tonometry, color vision testing, refractometry, and use of distometer.
  • Performs keratometry, photokeratometry, and corneal topography.
  • Assists with minor OR and laser procedures, including instrument set-up, sterile technique, and instrument cleaning/sterilization.
  • Performs visometry and BAT (Brightness Acuity Test).
  • Assists in the maintenance of equipment, supplies, and the environment, ensuring a clean, safe, and therapeutic setting.
  • Checks equipment/supplies for expiration dates, electrical safety tags, intactness, and usability; cleans equipment and returns it to its proper place.
  • Reports equipment and supplies needing replacement or repair.
  • Stocks rooms, carts, and cabinets as assigned/requested.
  • Respects and supports patient rights, serving as a patient/family advocate.
  • Practices patient and employee confidentiality.
  • Practices positive customer and peer relations, communicating in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Reports and seeks assistance in dealing with guest complaints/concerns.
  • Establishes and maintains a positive rapport with patients, families, and coworkers.
