About The Position

The primary purpose of your job is to assist with the delivery of patient care in accordance with current applicable Federal, State and Local standards, guidelines, regulations and established procedures as may be directed by the Administrator, to assure the highest degree of quality care and safety be maintained. This role involves planning for patient care, performing patient intake, communicating with patients and families, preparing and assisting with office procedures, providing age-specific care, and supporting the overall functioning of the office.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Basic Life Support [BLS] - Generic - HR Only required within 90 days of employment
  • Medical Assistant experience in an ambulatory setting 0-1 year preferred
  • A minimum of 6 months employment in an ambulatory physician practice setting in the last 3 years 0-1 year preferred
  • Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action in a timely fashion.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with staff, patients, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
  • Willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel and the general public.
  • Ability to read, write legibly, speak clearly and understand the English language.
  • Must meet 1 of the following within 1 year of employment if not completed prior to hire date: Preferred successful completion of Medical Assistant School/Program or comparable training within related discipline. Enrollment in program to enhance MA skills: Registered (RMA), Certified (CMA), Certified Clinical MA (CCMA). Enrollment in program leading to further skill development with medical field (including but not limited to CNA, EMT, LPN, RN, CNM, NP, PA, MD, DO).

Responsibilities

  • Anticipate needs of patient visits to optimize provider time.
  • Ensure necessary paperwork has been completed and results are received prior to visit.
  • Complete patient forms as necessary for the department.
  • Manage incoming documents, including faxing and scanning.
  • Verify patients using two patient identifiers.
  • Monitor provider schedules to ensure timely and efficient patient flow.
  • Obtain necessary vital signs per department standard operating procedure (SOP).
  • Record visit intake information clearly and accurately per department SOP.
  • Review preventative health needs and place orders as needed.
  • Review and update medication list, allergies, histories, smoking status, and social determinants of health.
  • Document information accurately in the EHR.
  • Prioritize delegated tasks based on patient care needs and office activities.
  • Communicate with patients/family members effectively.
  • Inform patients of test results and/or relay recommendations under physician/provider direction.
  • Document patient telephone conversations accurately and relay patient questions/requests to the provider.
  • Participate in team-based care and patient education initiatives.
  • Assist providers with office-based procedures and prepare supplies and patients.
  • Label and package specimens and store appropriately.
  • Clean and sterilize exam rooms and instruments.
  • Provide individualized, age-specific care under physician or provider orders.
  • Administer and document immunizations if applicable.
  • Ensure vaccine integrity and comply with inventory and reporting requirements.
  • Perform other related clinical duties as ordered by a provider, such as EKGs, vision exams, hearing exams, pulse oximetry, ear lavage.
  • Maintain all safety and compliance logs.
  • Recognize limitations and seek advice and direction when needed.
  • Accept assignments for patient care within the scope of the job.
  • Perform administrative functions such as scheduling appointments, managing work queues and in-baskets, and scanning documents.
  • Place orders for appointments per physician or provider instructions.
  • Process prescription refills.
  • Stock patient rooms and maintain supply rooms.
  • Attend department huddles and meetings and communicate relevant information.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned/directed.
