About The Position

Hughes Supply, a trade name of Hajoca Corporation, is seeking a Non-CDL Delivery Driver for their Naples, FL location. Hajoca Corporation is a large, privately-held wholesale distributor of plumbing, heating & cooling, and industrial supplies, founded in 1858. The company operates on principles of "Service, Integrity, Reliability" and values its talented people. The company functions in a decentralized environment where each location, known as a Profit Center (PC), is managed like a small business. This role involves operating trucks safely, loading and unloading merchandise, ensuring order accuracy, collecting payments, resolving customer issues, and identifying sales leads. The driver is also responsible for truck inspections and reporting any mechanical issues.

Requirements

  • Be able to drive a vehicle over 10,000 lbs.
  • Be at least 21 years old.
  • Possess a proper and valid driver’s license.
  • Have a driving record that meets the criteria for being an Authorized Driver.
  • Be able to pass a Department of Transportation physical examination before beginning work and at least every two years.
  • Know the laws, rules and regulations governing driving motor vehicles.
  • Know of, be able to apply, and practice safety precautions in a warehouse and material handling environment.
  • Be able to build and maintain a positive working relationship with customers, vendors and co-workers.
  • Be able to remain calm and function effectively in stressful, unexpected, and/or emergency situations.
  • Be able to learn to operate warehouse material-handling equipment.
  • Be able to learn and operate the computer related systems used in the delivery process.
  • Read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Responsibilities

  • Operate trucks safely and in compliance with Company rules, applicable laws, and regulations, delivering to various destinations.
  • Load Hajoca merchandise onto the truck, ensuring it is properly secured.
  • Understand shipping documents and have accurate directions to delivery destinations.
  • Review shipping documentation to ensure order accuracy.
  • Unload correct merchandise at the delivery site and obtain required signatures.
  • Collect and secure outstanding payments for cash sale deliveries.
  • Work with customers at the delivery site to resolve shipping discrepancies.
  • Load the truck with merchandise from vendor locations, customer returns, or other wholesalers.
  • Provide sales leads by noting prospective customer names and addresses.
  • Inspect the truck and its parts for safe operating condition before departure and keep the truck clean.
  • Advise management of any mechanical problems with the truck.
  • Complete the Driver’s Daily Vehicle Inspection Report for vehicles over 10,001 lbs. GVWR if defects are found.
  • Remove keys from the truck at the end of the workday and store them in the approved location.
  • Successfully complete required safety and compliance training programs.
  • Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned.
