The NOC shift ED supervisor is responsible for strong problem-solving abilities in complex situations, working within budget and productivity targets, and supporting staff selection, evaluation, orientation, continued education, competency evaluation, and scheduling based on patient acuity. This role supports the Manager/Clinical Leader to ensure staff knowledge, skills, and behaviors align with unit goals. The supervisor is patient-focused with a strong commitment to quality, safety, and customer service, accountable for patient satisfaction action plans, and supports process improvement in operations and quality. Knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements is essential. The role requires effective communication, participation in hospital and department committees, and demonstrated ability in developing and mentoring staff. The supervisor leads by example, demonstrating professional behavior and accountability, and serves as a role model and coach for service standards and recovery. Participation in performance improvement activities and utilization of critical thinking for patient safety and experience are key. Supports the professional nurse continuum and nursing clinical ladder for RNs (CARE).
