About The Position

The Denver Public Library (DPL) is seeking 5 Night Custodians to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for staff and the public at its Central Library Branch. This role involves routine manual work, including custodial duties, moving furniture, snow removal, and some outdoor landscaping. DPL is a vibrant, essential hub for the diverse city of Denver, with 28 locations and a mission guided by values of Welcoming, Curiosity, Connection, Equity, and Stewardship.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of cleaning materials and the operation of custodial equipment.
  • Ability to perform routine and repetitive manual tasks for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding position with continuous bending, kneeling, and lifting of objects that can weigh up to 25-50 pounds.
  • Ability to follow simple written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability or willingness to learn to use basic workplace technology including email and internet.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service skills.
  • Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for the minimum education requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Perform interior custodial duties including mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and using mechanical floor cleaners to polish, buff, strip, and wax floors.
  • Perform exterior custodial/maintenance duties including snow removal, mowing lawns, pulling weeds, watering plants and lawns, raking leaves, picking up litter, and clearing dumpster areas.
  • Operate light machinery powered by small engines as necessary.
  • Remove waste and soiled linens from the work area.
  • Gather and dispose of trash and waste, which may contain hazardous materials.
  • Clean and disinfect all fixtures, floors, mirrors, windows, doors, and walls in various areas including kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms, locker rooms, weight rooms, holding cells, and other work areas.
  • Restock supplies as needed.
  • Move furniture in Library buildings.
  • Perform snow removal and some outdoor landscaping duties.
