About The Position

Under general supervision, this role is responsible for developing, interpreting, and administering employee health services. The Night Shift Occupational Nurse acts as a medical advisor and liaison between employees, management, and the medical community. This role also serves as a liaison between ESF and employees regarding medical leaves (short-term and long-term) and Worker’s Compensation injuries.

Requirements

  • Active license as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of South Carolina.
  • Minimum of 3-6 years in industrial settings with management responsibilities sufficient to be fully competent in managing medical services in an industrial occupational setting.
  • Understands occupational medicine and health and the factors that can affect goal achievement.
  • Uses professional knowledge in planning and decision making.
  • Must be physically able to respond in the event of an emergency (walk to the emergency location, talk, and communicate effectively to responding employees).
  • Must be able to hear a radio and use a telephone for assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Provides a proactive leadership role in maintaining a safe work environment, ensuring safe behavior in our employees and enforcement of all safety policies.
  • Collaborates with management and other members of the Occupational Health Team, such as Physicians, HS&E Manager, Corporate Business Unit partner, WC Attorney, Long Term and Short-Term medical resources.
  • Evaluates employee medical restrictions for job placement or modified work, including pre-placement physicals, return to work assessments, and annual occupational screenings (Pulmonary Function Test, Respiratory Fit Test, Hearing Test, Forklift annual screening, Vision Screening).
  • Assists in providing medical assistance pertaining to FMLA, Short- and Long-Term Disability and Workers Compensation.
  • Maintains accurate records such as Health Assessments, Workers Compensation Files, Medical Leave of Absence, Return to work program, Wellness Programs (Health Education, Accident Prevention, Alcohol/Drug Abuse counseling, Smoking Cessation), Drug/Alcohol Testing Program, Essential Functions listings for plant operations, and other required records. Acts as an active member of the HS&E Team.
  • Provides in-service training and orientation in health/safety related programs for all employees.
  • Assures training of the site Emergency Response Team and conducts monthly ERT meetings.
  • Meets medical needs for all employees by administering first aid for work-related injuries, dispensing medications within protocol, counseling/referral of employees for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses per ESF medical protocols, including EAP.
  • Directs and manages Workers Compensation cases, including contact with physicians and hospitals to arrange for further medical treatment for work-related injuries, health emergencies, and follow-up care.
  • Leads the Emergency Response Team and Site Wellness Plan.
