About The Position

Our recreation facilities are looking for a reliable Custodian to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our community and staff. This position may also perform small building maintenance duties.

Requirements

  • Strong Knowledge of cleaning and sanitation requirements at a public facility.
  • Strong Knowledge of common cleaning equipment, tools, materials, and supplies needed for custodian work.
  • Strong Knowledge of routine custodian practices and methods, including safety procedures, proper handling, operation and maintenance of equipment, and basic building safety tasks.
  • Strong Knowledge of principles and practices of customer service.
  • Strong Knowledge of spoken and written English.
  • Strong Knowledge of safe and effective use and application of cleaning agents and solvents.
  • Ability to safely and effectively operate cleaning equipment and tools.
  • Ability to take direction and perform task with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and perform a full range of assigned janitorial duties in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to identify occupational hazards and use safety precautions.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use active listening and interpersonal skills to mitigate conflict.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to create a positive, constructive and respectful relationship with staff and the general public.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Some custodial or facility maintenance experience preferred; OR Any satisfactory combination of education, experience and training.
  • Some positions may require possession of, or ability to obtain valid Oregon driver’s license within 30 days with an acceptable driving history as defined by district driving policy.
  • This position may require reporting to additional sites throughout the workday, typically achieved in a motor vehicle OR other modes of transportation. If choosing a personal vehicle, possession of, or ability to obtain valid Oregon driver’s license within 30 days with an acceptable driving history as defined by district driving policy.
  • If you do not have a driver’s license or have an unacceptable driving history, it does not disqualify you from this position, only from driving a vehicle for district business.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction and support to new custodial staff.
  • Perform cleaning, janitorial and sanitation duties on park restrooms and/or assigned facilities, including refilling supplies in restrooms.
  • Assist in determining cleaning needs and adjust janitorial and sanitation schedule.
  • Sweep and/or power wash sidewalks, parking lots and pool decks. Remove snow from sidewalks and entryways.
  • Organize, maintain and recommend purchases for janitorial equipment and supplies.
  • Assist in determining cleaning needs and recommend janitorial and sanitation schedule adjustments to the Custodial Supervisor.
  • Monitor equipment and facilities for required maintenance; performs routine maintenance, including unclogging sinks, drains, and toilets; submits work order requests for necessary repairs.
  • Maintains floors including stripping, waxing, polishing, buffing or burnishing finished floors.
  • Clean and report graffiti, vandalism and other incidents.
  • Arrange classroom and meeting room furniture, including setting up and taking down equipment, supplies, tables and chairs.
  • Acts as a Mandatory Reporter; reports incidents of child abuse/neglect.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
