About The Position

Transitional Services for New York, Inc. (TSINY), a not-for-profit, comprehensive, community-based mental health organization located in New York City, is seeking a Night Counselor Supervisor for its Residential Program in Jamaica, Queens. TSINY provides a continuum of rehabilitative services to enrich the lives of individuals recovering from mental illness and to facilitate their transition to increased levels of independence. The organization aims to broaden its rehabilitative services and become a regional social service provider, with staff delivering effective programs with compassion, integrity, and professionalism, prioritizing client needs while respecting each other and themselves.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver's License Required
  • Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree plus one year’s experience or High School diploma plus two years’ supervisory experience in a mental health setting.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all TSINY guidelines and procedures are followed during the 12am – 8am shift.
  • Ensure the safety of residents and staff.
  • Provide supervision for all 12am – 8am counselors.
  • Ensure adequate coverage during the 12am – 8am shift.
  • Perform crisis intervention and incident management.
  • Read and initial Communication Book entries and follow up as indicated.
  • Be available to residents and staff for crisis intervention, direction, and support.
  • Communicate critical information (clinical, medical, safety, maintenance) to Administrator/supervisor.
  • Receive and follow up on phone and mail communications.
  • Answer telephones and door.
  • Assume medication/shift supervisor duties as scheduled/needed.
  • Conduct room checks.
  • Ensure the safety and welfare of all residents.
  • Supervise kitchen activities for safety, health, and cleanliness.
  • Work collaboratively with team members on resident Service Plan goals.
  • Perform room checks and wake-up calls per program schedule.
  • Conduct building checks every two hours throughout the night.
  • Check and document car mileage.
  • Ensure cleanliness of assigned staff offices and public areas.
  • Delegate staff assignments and follow up to ensure task completion.
  • Coordinate staff breaks to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Meet with night counselors for supervision.
  • Update daily room check sheet.
  • Perform back charting.
  • Ensure organization of assigned charts.
  • Participate in staff meetings.
  • Ensure completion of bi-weekly time sheets.
  • Complete monthly chart audit reviews.
  • Update resident roster.
  • Prepare sign-in and out book for all shifts.
  • Oversee the review of monthly medication sheets.
  • Meet with supervisor for supervision with a prepared agenda.
  • Prepare the 12-8 schedule.
  • Prepare 12-8 job performance evaluations.
  • Complete and forward Incident Reports to Administrator.
  • Complete and forward Status Changes immediately to IDF Director.
  • Escort/assist residents with securing financial benefits.
  • Assist residents in receiving medical and dental care.
  • Escort residents to medical/psychiatric appointments/emergencies.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the physical plant.
  • Identify and communicate supply needs to Administrator.
  • Ensure a safe and clean environment.
  • Document and track staff lateness and absences.
  • Provide orientation to new employees for the 12-8 shift.
  • Ensure TSINY forms in the file cabinet are adequately stocked.
  • Meet with supervisor/administrator as needed.
  • Assume and adhere to assigned Job Action role(s) during a declared disaster.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
