About The Position

The NF Recovery Manager (NFRM) reports directly to the Plant Manager and oversees the collection, processing and treatment of Auto Shredder Residue (ASR) prior to shipment to the landfills. The NFRM communicates with the Maintenance Manager regarding all repair and maintenance issues. The incumbent oversees nonferrous (NF) metal recovery and fluff stockpiling processes in compliance with state regulatory requirements. The NFRM assigns daily duties for pickers / cleaners in this department. The NFRM assists the Shredder Manager, Terminal Operations Manager, Maintenance Manager, Regional Environmental Manager, Regional Safety Engineer(s) and facility and regional Commercial teams with issues pertaining to optimizing physical plant operations. Maintains a safe work environment and assists the Regional Safety Engineer(s) in training employees on safety procedures. This position operates within somewhat flexible parameters. The primary goal of this position is to achieve excellence in all facets of the JP operations. Providing the highest quality product safely, effectively and efficiently decreases accidents and errors and increases profits. Responsibilities are to ensure that compliance is maintained according to state regulations. Continuous process analysis and improvement is required to ensure maximum efficient metal recovery which is measured daily.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5-10 years of manufacturing work experience.
  • 2-5 years of managerial experience.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of manufacturing processes required.
  • Prior experience managing and leading a work crew is necessary.
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand ASR treatment systems from shredder discharge to shipment.
  • Understand all components of the treatment plant.
  • Operate various types of equipment, such as chemical treatment pumps, Induction Sorting System (ISS), eddy current separators (ECS) feeder screws, shakers, PLC controls.
  • Repair and replace critical components of system.
  • Communicate, both orally and in writing, in a professional manner.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must have a proven track record of pro-actively researching new and emerging production systems along with the ability to implement change.
  • Successful candidate will have previously been involved with continuous improvement initiatives with documented success.
  • Must exhibit analytical skills to manage production metrics and implement new technologies.
  • Must have experience managing a departmental budget, justifying capital expenditures and measuring return on investment.
  • Ability and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form; deal with problems involving several specific variables in or from standard situations.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive an automobile.

Nice To Haves

  • Maintenance background preferred.
  • Previous exposure to working within a unionized environment is a plus.
  • Spanish speaking helpful but not necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures safe work practices and equipment are used at all times and that documentation, inspections, and current practices are in accordance with corporate safety policies, OSHA and other regulatory guidelines.
  • Provides a safe environment for all employees, customers and visitors.
  • Creates Health & Safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
  • Ensures all department employees receive timely safety and operational training and that the appropriate documents are prepared.
  • Maintains employee files per regional practice.
  • Assigns an employee to be on the Safety Committee and personally attends Safety Committee meetings on rotation with other managers.
  • Monitors safety program to reduce accident frequency within department, implements new departmental safety ideas/procedures in line with overall MRB Health & Safety goals.
  • Responsible for understanding and monitoring the regulatory environment as it affects this department and the Company’s relationship with the regulatory agencies.
  • Provides leadership to JP department staff on multiple shifts.
  • Assigns work schedule for employees under his/her direct supervision in order to run efficiently, at optimal production rates, with minimal overtime.
  • Stays abreast of evolving technological innovation with regard to NF metal and plastic separation.
  • Oversees the JP plant operations and ensures that all equipment is operated and maintained properly.
  • Purchases chemicals, fly ash or cement pumps and/or parts necessary to maintain proper functioning of the JP Plant.
  • Prepares the scheduling for major projects to the JP Plant including manpower, equipment, downtime and timeline.
  • Ensures that processing and storage of finished goods is done in compliance with internal controls already set in place.
  • Ensures that reports of any off grade/ off spec materials are discussed with supervisor prior to shipment in order to eliminate quality consumer complaints, avoid downgrades and eliminate claims.
  • Participate in Joint Products Operations Committee and provide other operational group support as needed.
  • Prepares and monitors daily production reports to continuously improve throughput, reduce costs/expenses; increase profitability and maximize metal recovery.
  • Monitors and maintains exempt and hourly staff at cost effective and competitive levels.
  • Monitors supervisory practices for self and his/her direct reports to ensure compliance with HR policies and union contracts.
  • Reviews performance of direct reports.
  • Interviews prospective management and/or production employees.
  • Works with Human Resources personnel to prepare job descriptions.
  • Supports the Company’s Internal Control process which includes understanding, communicating and complying with defined internal controls as well as suggesting and making modifications to the policies, procedures and controls to better relate to the business.
  • Communicates upward problems in operations, noncompliance with the code of conduct, or other policy violations or illegal actions.
  • Ensures that all his/her efforts are compliant with the company’s Health, Safety and Environmental regulations.
  • Regularly works with the commercial department and other department managers to ensure complete adherence to receiving and processing responsibilities.

Benefits

  • Compensation Range: $140,000 - $160,000/year
