The most important way Bloomberg Industry Group gets top-tier, industry-leading news in front of the professionals who need it is through newsletters. Help to guide our team of dedicated and creative newsletter journalists and play a key role in crafting engaging and fun newsletters that keep readers coming back day after day. We're looking for someone who can be smartly experimental in content and presentation as the newsroom continues to innovate newsletter offerings and stand out in a competitive environment. The deputy team leader should have exceptional news judgment, be a strategic thinker, and have proven leadership skills. You’ll work on products that touch all corners of one of Washington's busiest newsrooms. You'll help lead a team that has a hand in everything from breaking news to special deep-dive projects.   • Bachelor’s degree with coursework in journalism or equivalent experience.
  • Five-or-more years of experience in journalism, with demonstrated success producing excellent and ambitious stories.

Responsibilities

  • Be a newsroom leader. Strengthen the culture and people.
  • Monitor the daily flow of news, and ensure quality standards remain high.
  • Coordinate the team of reporters and editors, understand what’s happening in the rest of the newsroom and ensure that we’re covering major developments from all relevant angles.
  • Make assignments and set the team’s agenda, from daily coverage to longer term targets.
  • Provide constructive feedback and help editors communicate in a similar way.
  • Adapt to new technology and tools.
  • Track reporter/editor availability, prioritize resources on a daily and weekly basis, and analyze data to help inform coverage decisions.
  • Make tough decisions in the moment as news breaks, learn from mistakes, and adjust as needed.
  • Educate reporters and editors about newsroom goals and help them create the best possible stories on their beat.
  • Set high standards and lead by personal example.
  • Think big and challenge your team to do the same.
