About The Position

WPHL-TV is seeking a part time News Producer. In this role, you would produce daily newscasts, decide the order in which stories will be told, write teases and other content, time news programs, and post news content across all media platforms. This position requires the ability to see the big picture and assist with the execution of strategic and brand initiatives. The producer will coordinate with other staff and control room staff to ensure newscasts are clean, be proactive about troubleshooting problems and responding to breaking news, and serve as a leader in the newsroom, helping to train less-experienced staff. The role also involves writing informative and detailed web platform stories, editing video using non-linear editing programs, and ensuring station compliance with FCC, local, state, and federal laws.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field of equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Minimum two years’ experience working in news
  • Must be able to interact well with video journalists, anchors, videographers, news managers, production and engineering staff
  • Fluency in English with strong spelling and grammar
  • Excellent verbal, written, grammar and analytical skills
  • Proficient in non-linear editing
  • Ability to multi-task, and work in demanding, high-pressure situations
  • Must maintain a professional work appearance and conduct themselves as a professional

  • Knowledge of media production, communication and dissemination techniques and methods, including alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media

  • Time broadcasts and ensure they are clean and correct on the air
  • Assign reporters and photographers, as needed
  • Fill in for producers of other newscasts, as needed and in emergency situations
  • Check video formats to ensure video will play on air
  • Ensure station compliance with rules and regulations applicable to FCC, local, state, and federal laws
  • Write informative and detailed web platform stories that include links and additional information viewers will find useful
  • Edit video using non-linear editing programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned
