About The Position

WBRC 6 News is looking for a news producer with bold editorial instincts, strong news judgment, and the creativity to shape fast-moving, high-impact newscasts. The producer will have access to multiple live capabilities and a team that thrives on urgency, clarity, and storytelling. This role requires initiative, critical thinking, and the ability to make bold editorial calls. The ideal candidate enjoys building a show from the ground up and continuously improving each newscast.

Requirements

• Minimum of one year of experience in a newsroom.
• Self-starter with a passion for news.
• Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and overnights when needed.
• Not a position for beginners.

Responsibilities

• Use editorial judgment to decide show content.
• Work with reporters and managers to build fast-paced, impactful, and original newscasts.
• Monitor social media for trends, fresh angles, and trending stories.
• Utilize visuals such as graphics, viewer photos, and webcam interviews to enhance stories.
• Write for all platforms (web, social) and post content with engaging visuals and video.
• Interview subjects and research stories for accuracy, fairness, and viewer interest.
• Contribute to live breaking news and special coverage, often under high-stakes and unscripted conditions.
• Collaborate with reporters and producers on promos, teases, and content development.
• Follow up on tips and chase leads to discover new stories.
• Make smart, fast decisions under pressure, especially during last-minute changes.
• Write clean, clear copy across platforms under deadline pressure.
• Adhere to journalistic and legal guidelines.
• Edit video for both broadcast and digital platforms.
