About The Position

WOOD-TV is looking for an aggressive, innovative, and creative News Producer to join their team. This role is at the cutting edge of journalism in West Michigan, producing TV newscasts and coordinating the development of original content programs and breaking news coverage on the WOODTV+ streaming platform. The ideal candidate is a dynamic writer and a calming presence in high-stress situations. Under the guidance of the Executive Producer, the Producer organizes and writes the on-air newscast, determining the order and presentation of stories under strict deadlines. They will also plan streaming programs aired daily on WOODTV+. Candidates must be willing to work overnights and weekends.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
• Fluency in English.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Must be able to interact well with reporters/MMJs, anchors, photojournalists, news managers, production and engineering staff.
• Detail oriented.
• Strong news judgment, journalistic integrity and understanding of viewer needs and expectations.
• Utilize state-of-the-art television technology.
• Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment.
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Schedule to include evenings and weekends.

Nice To Haves

• One year experience in news operations.
• Experience with ENPS, BitCentral, Premiere and OBS a plus.

Responsibilities

• Produces newscasts for broadcast across all platforms.
• Writes and orders news stories.
• Approves scripts.
• Contributes to the editorial process and makes solid decisions in breaking news situations.
• Balances news and feature content to create compelling broadcasts.
• Builds rundowns for WOODTV+.
• Operates the OBS equipment in the WOODTV+ studio.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
