About The Position
WMC in Memphis, Tennessee, seeks a dynamic and creative newscast producer who can thrive in a highly competitive environment. The producer will develop a clear vision for an assigned newscast and be able to take over other newscasts as needed. The role requires strong, concise writing, active engagement with news across multiple platforms, and the ability to work under deadline. WMC, Action News 5, is the NBC affiliate and a legacy news station serving the competitive Memphis market and the Mid-South. The station produces local broadcast and OTT programming and emphasizes community-focused journalism, local partnerships, and broadcast and digital media innovation. Gray Media is a multimedia company headquartered in Atlanta and operates television stations, digital assets, and other media and production businesses. The producer selects and orders stories, writes broadcast scripts, edits video, creates graphics and other elements, and collaborates with newsroom colleagues to coordinate every aspect of a newscast. Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism or a related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.
- Strong, accurate writing skills.
- Passion for news and current events.
- Solid news judgment.
- Excellent time management.
- Ability to work under deadline and engage with news across multiple platforms.
Nice To Haves
- Experience working in a television newsroom is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Select stories and determine their order for the newscast.
- Write broadcast scripts.
- Edit video and create graphics and other showcasing elements to enhance viewers’ experience and understanding of the content.
- Collaborate with anchors, reporters, digital producers, editors, directors, management, and others to choreograph all elements of the newscast, from the overall plan to minute details.
- Develop a clear vision for an assigned newscast and be prepared to produce other newscasts as needed.
