Telemundo Area de la Bahia 48 - News Internship – Fall 2026
About The Position
NBCUniversal is seeking passionate, hard-working, and curious emerging journalists for its News Internship program at Telemundo Area de la Bahia 48 – Fall 2026. This paid internship offers students the opportunity to unlock their potential by contributing to significant projects within a dynamic, major market newsroom. Interns will assist assignment editors, show producers, package producers, writers, editors, and reporters, working under deadline and across platforms. Responsibilities include identifying and pitching stories, following up on leads, supporting fact-checking, finding visual news elements, identifying sources, pre-interviewing subjects, logging breaking news, and assisting in news gathering. Specific areas of placement may include Sports (KSTS), Assignment Desk, and General Newsroom. The program runs from September 21 to December 18, 2026, requiring 20 hours per week at the station in San Jose, CA. Interns will also benefit from networking, learning and development opportunities, a complimentary Peacock subscription, free admission to Universal Parks, and access to mental health resources.
Requirements
- Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program.
- Recent graduates are not eligible.
- Current class standing of Junior or above.
- Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future.
- Must be available to work 20 hours per week during duration of internship.
- Must be willing to work in San Jose, CA.
- Candidates currently on any student or exchange visa (e.g. F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1) are not eligible to apply unless they will be able to change or adjust to another status that grants work authorization without NBCUniversal sponsorship.
- Must have an active Social Security number.
- Must complete I-9 form with Social Security number within 3 days of hire.
Nice To Haves
- Strong interest in news, journalism, and/or media.
- Strong writing, time management, and interpersonal skills.
- Academic background in Broadcast Journalism, Journalism, English, Communications, Media Studies, Political Science, or other related fields preferred.
- Experience working with a campus TV station, newspaper, or website.
- Comfortable with shooting and editing on cellphone as well as desktop editing.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.
- Fluent in the news of the day and the Bay Area news market (i.e., local politics, sports, culture, etc.).
- Ability to condense and prioritize information.
- Eye for unique and community-based stories.
- Comfortable reaching out and communicating with viewers, subject matter experts, and local government agencies.
- Fluency with various social media platforms.
- Ability to shoot and edit social media videos.
- Interest and availability to work nights and/or weekends.
