About The Position

ABC7 (WLS-TV) Chicago is the Midwest flagship of the ABC television network. ABC7 leads the market in local news coverage with daily linear and streaming newscasts and has been in the number one position in local news since March 1986! The station’s offices and studios are in The Loop in downtown Chicago. This internship is a part time (18 hours a week), six-month commitment in the Chicago, IL area from January 2027-June 2027.

Requirements

• Previous experience in broadcasting, new media production, or script writing
• Proficiency with social media
• Experience with working in independent and collaborative environments
• Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree taking at least one class at time of application OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship.
• Current Disney Interns, College, International, or Culinary Program Participants: You may only work for ONE consecutive year (12 months) in any combination of an internship and/or program.
• Be at least 18 years of age
• Possess unrestricted work authorization
• Able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the internship
• Fully available for the duration of the internship, working 18 hours each week
• Able to provide own housing for the duration of internship program in the Chicago, IL area
• Able to provide reliable transportation to/from work in the Chicago, IL area

Nice To Haves

• Major or previous coursework in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, Media or related field

Responsibilities

• Travel with reporters and photojournalists in the field for newsgathering, story completion, and live remotes
• Observe anchors in the studio during live newscasts
• Practice writing copy and editing video
• Shadow linear producers, executive producers, digital producers, and special projects producers in their respective roles
• Attend morning and/or afternoon editorial meetings
• Get an up-close look at how news is distributed beyond TV to our myriad of digital and social media platforms
