Winter/Spring News Intern (Unpaid)
About The Position
WSET News is offering an unpaid Winter/Spring 2026–2027 internship at its Roanoke (Lynchburg), Virginia location. The intern will gain newsroom experience through observation and hands-on training, learning how news is produced from start to finish. Interns will work with reporters, anchors, producers, editors, and photographers, both in-house and in the field. Training may cover producing a news segment from the control room, researching and pitching stories, and operating camera equipment and identifying important shots. The internship is intended to provide an educational and professional development experience. Participation must be coordinated with the student’s college or university for academic credit under faculty sponsorship. The position is unpaid; interns do not receive wages or employee benefits except as required by applicable law, and future employment is not guaranteed.
Requirements
- Must be attending an accredited college or university or be a recent college graduate.
- Willing to work approximately 15 hours per week for 10 weeks; hours may vary with news programming schedules.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have reliable transportation and be able to work at the Roanoke (Lynchburg), Virginia location.
- Internship participation must be coordinated with the student’s college or university for academic credit under faculty sponsorship.
Nice To Haves
- Studying journalism, mass communications, communications, or a related field.
- Interest in gaining firsthand experience in news.
