About The Position

CNBC is seeking a News Editor to shape how audiences experience our journalism and help manage CNBC’s homepage. Working at the center of the newsroom, this editor will program CNBC's flagship homepage to showcase the most important coverage for investors, business leaders and engaged readers, while also serving as a strong editor of stories. The role is part of a team that acts as an air-traffic controller for CNBC.com — monitoring breaking news, markets and audience trends to determine what leads the site at any given moment. The editor will collaborate closely with reporters, producers, and senior editors to ensure coverage is timely, accurate and prominently displayed. The position requires strong news judgment, visual instincts and a sharp sense of digital presentation. The editor will make quick decisions about story placement, headlines and imagery, while editing stories to ensure clarity, accuracy and impact. They must balance breaking news with enterprise reporting and live coverage to create a clear, compelling report for CNBC’s audience. Successful candidates stay organized and decisive when multiple major stories break at once, ensuring CNBC’s digital platforms always reflect the most important news in real time. This role is based in Englewood Cliffs, NJ and reports to CNBC Digital’s Deputy Managing Editor. This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks. Salary range: $75,000-$110,000.

Requirements

  • At least five years of editing experience.
  • At least three years of daily homepage management.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clean copy fast.
  • Ability to work quickly under deadline pressure.

Nice To Haves

  • Accurate, fast and cool under pressure. The job calls for strong news judgment and involves fast-paced editing and guiding breaking-news reporters across the newsroom
  • Background in business and/or finance journalism.
  • Proficient in AP style and light photo-editing skills help, too
  • Experience at a large online content destination, such as a major online news site or financial newspaper
  • Ongoing knowledge of and interest in the business world and financial news

Responsibilities

  • Program CNBC’s homepage to ensure clear, engaging delivery of that moment’s top news.
  • Collaborate with beat reporters and their editors to craft and alert informative breaking news headlines.
  • Package articles on the homepage, offering sharp multimedia features and related coverage as needed.
  • Adjust headline tone and placement as needed, working with the audience team to make sure our SEO approach is on point.
