About The Position

This role involves evaluating and prioritizing infants for hearing screenings before hospital discharge, adhering to established protocols. The screening process considers factors such as the infant's time of birth, estimated discharge time to avoid prolonging the length of stay, and the necessity of a second screening before discharge.

Requirements

  • Two or more years of related hospital or clinic-based experience required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated skill in sharing information with governing bodies and employees in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Well-developed project management, people management, and client relationship skills.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Organizational skills to manage time efficiently.
  • Ability to adapt to changing environments.
  • Must relate in a professional and courteous manner with internal and external customers.
  • Use verbal, negotiating, and written communication skills effectively.
  • Handle conflict constructively.
  • Maintain positive interpersonal relationships with patients, families, physicians, and co-workers.
  • Current AHA BLS required upon hire.
  • Completion of the National Center for Hearing Assessment and Management Training within 6 months of hire.
  • Accurate typing, personal computer, data entry skills.
  • Standing, walking, lifting up to 30 pounds.
  • Sufficient emotional stability to relate with co-workers and clients in a professional manner even in a stressful busy clinic setting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform automated hearing screening tests.
  • Inform parents of the infant prior to screening and address their questions.
  • Identify risk factors for hearing loss.
  • Strictly follow established protocols and procedures when performing automated screening tests using designated equipment.
  • Communicate screening results to parents and answer any post-test questions.
  • Provide parents with written information regarding hearing loss and speech/language milestones.
  • Refer problematic or difficult cases for follow-up and schedule outpatient appointments.
  • Offer parents follow-up options if required.
  • Document screening test results and maintain the newborn hearing screening log.
  • Enter data into the DHCS website and document it in the Electronic Medical Record.
  • Adhere to established infection control procedures.
  • Utilize appropriate baby-handling skills.
  • Recognize and troubleshoot screening equipment issues, reporting unresolved problems.
  • Identify potential problems with the infant or major medical equipment and report them to appropriate personnel.
  • Monitor supply inventory, report needs to the manager, and maintain adequate supply levels for screening equipment.
  • Complete billing sheets for all performed hearing screenings and submit them to the manager.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
