New Well Delivery Operator

Devon Energy•Hobbs, NM

About The Position

Working under general supervision, the New Well Delivery Operator supports the safe and efficient startup, initial flowback, and delivery of new wells into production. The role verifies well-pad and facility readiness; coordinates flowback contractors, construction, pump technicians, and third-party takeaway providers; monitors well performance and production data; identifies and resolves operational issues; and maintains accurate records and communication with engineering and field leadership. The operator helps ensure equipment, flow paths, instrumentation, safety systems, and production measurement are functioning as intended throughout first delivery and the transition to routine operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required.
  • Safety leadership, operational ownership, oral and written communication, cross-functional coordination, troubleshooting, attention to detail, results orientation, digital literacy, and sound judgment during changing field conditions.
  • Skills in flowback and production equipment; facility process flow and valve alignment; startup and commissioning verification; SCADA/Cygnet, PI, ProdView, Digital Oilfield, HMI and OneNote; production data validation; sampling and sand monitoring; contractor coordination; JSA/SIMOPS/LOTO practices; and incident escalation and documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of relevant experience preferred, ideally in upstream production operations, new well startups, flowback, facility operations, equipment commissioning, or related field work.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with pump technicians and the Construction Electrical PIC to verify pump rotation and readiness; verify equipment commissioning and operation, including instrument air compressors, flare and heater burner management systems, and vapor recovery units.
  • Verify facility piping and valve alignment, appropriate supply regulator settings, and required vessel preparation, including heater-treater water levels, leak checks, and controlled pressurization/purging through designated flare systems in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Confirm buyback systems are purged and operational where applicable; verify instrument-air supply and cleared lines to vessel dumps and well pads.
  • Coordinate flowback equipment mobilization, rig-up, and rig-down; verify open-top flow tanks are properly placed and grounded/bonded.
  • Verify pressure testing of flowback iron to well-specific requirements; function-test emergency shutdown systems, valves, pressure transmitters, HMI indications, and communication to Cygnet.
  • Verify suitable lifting equipment is used and operators hold required certifications during rig-up and rig-down.
  • Validate production volumes and data consistency across Cygnet, PI, ProdView, Digital Oilfield, and HMI reports; update required operational reporting.
  • Perform daily facility and well-pad walkthroughs; inspect vessel dumps, pressure regulators, flowback manifolds, sight glasses, high-level switches, and leak detection for proper operation.
  • Coordinate with third-party takeaway providers during operating upsets and planned maintenance to minimize production interruptions; arrange trucking services when needed.
  • Communicate morning-meeting action items, track timely completion, and immediately notify the Asset Engineer of unplanned events or significant well/facility issues.
  • Identify maintenance needs, enter and follow through on M1 work requests, and support troubleshooting with engineering, field operations, and contractors.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs, flowback notes, operating changes, samples, and event records in Teams OneNote and other designated systems.
  • Ensure daily job safety analyses (JSAs) are completed and updated as activities change; verify personnel sign in, understand the JSA, and are aware of simultaneous operations (SIMOPS).
  • Maintain regulatory, environmental, and safety compliance in coordination with engineering, operations leadership, and EHS; report incidents and near misses promptly and exercise stop-work authority.
