About The Position

The Mechanical/Design Engineer will work with our team of Industrial Designers and other engineers to develop innovative new products. Will conduct feasibility studies and coordinate validation testing on new and modified designs. Has the ability to use state-of-the-art CAD and analysis tools to create mechanical designs, primarily consisting of injection-molded plastic, extruded parts, accessory components, fabrics and metal components from initial concepts through prototyping and into high volume production. Will work closely with internal and/or external partners to generate all necessary documentation and test plans to ensure that products meet specifications. Will interact directly with Asian manufacturing facilities. Occasional travel to Asia will be required. Will ensure product features achieve cost, schedule, reliability, and regulatory/safety goals.

Requirements

• B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 3-5+ years of relevant experience in mechanical and/or product design development, consumer goods experience a strong benefit.
• Proficient in 3D CAD modeling/design. Experience in SolidWorks is a plus.
• Demonstrated experience and knowledge of materials, properties, and fabrication processes.
• Prior experience with injection molding is highly preferred.
• Working understanding of principals of reliability testing, design of experiments, materials and process.
• Traveling to global manufacturing sites will be necessary.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with soft goods and multi-material products and gear.
• Hands-on prototyping skills spanning multiple domains (sewing, 3D printing, basic fixture-building, fabrication and use of power tools, lathes, mills, etc.)
• Experience with Asia OEM partners and manufacturing suppliers.
• Ability to create elegant and simple solutions to complex problems

Responsibilities

• Deliver products according to the design timelines and within cost targets.
• Responsible for the overall design, analysis, documentation, and functional validation of mechanical components and assemblies.
• Designs, conducts and participates in mechanical engineering evaluation and tests to validate the robustness and proper performance of new products.
• Partner with Industrial Design team members, suppliers/partners, manufacturing and operations, quality, tooling, and other development groups to ensure the successful development and launch of new products.
• Utilizes best-in-class tools to develop innovative mechanical solutions to highly complex problems.
• Protect company intellectual property through design and patent application processes.
