About The Position

This internship offers a unique opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world business environment within the R&D team at Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream. Interns will gain exposure to ice cream product development and provide hands-on technical support to R&D Scientists. The role is full-time (40 hours/week) for a period of 3-6 months, with potential for extension. Requirements

  • Detail oriented and analytical
  • Inquisitive and curious
  • Strong hands-on aptitude for set-up/operation/maintenance of lab and bench top equipment
  • Very good knowledge of MS office (Excel, Power Point)
  • Full command of MS Excel to analyze data and transform graphically
  • Excellent computer skills with ability to transfer data/information from various software applications into MS Excel for management
  • Good command of English language, both oral and written
  • Respect to confidentiality and company policies
  • Completion of two years college level courses in food science, chemistry, biochemistry, engineering or related scientific discipline with a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Experience working in a lab environment, conducting experiments, documenting results, etc.

  • Prior work experience in a R&D laboratory, food manufacturing, quality assurance, or related fields

Responsibilities

  • Assist R&D Scientists/Engineers prepare for execution of experiments, prototype development and bench top trials by setting up equipment, weighing and mixing ingredients, operating equipment, collecting samples and data, and cleaning equipment according to GLPs/GMPs.
  • Execute experiments and analyze the physical chemical properties of prototypes in the analytical lab, including testing ingredient substitutions, formula changes, and process variables.
  • Collect, organize, and maintain experimental samples and data.
  • Maintain sample inventories of prototypes for shelf-life studies and retrieve requested samples for evaluation and sensory tests.
