About The Position

Speakman is seeking a New Product Development Engineer to take mechanical plumbing products from concept through production. This role combines hands-on mechanical design, materials and manufacturing knowledge, simulation, prototyping, testing, technical documentation, and cross-functional project leadership. You will manage multiple development projects while working closely with Product Management, Marketing, Project Management, Quality, Product Compliance, Sustaining Engineering, Sourcing, Operations, Manufacturing, vendors, and outside testing or certification resources. The ideal candidate is both a strong mechanical engineer and a disciplined project owner who can balance performance, cost, quality, timing, and customer needs.

Requirements

  • Current residence in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or Delaware with the ability to support periodic in-person work in the Philadelphia / Delaware region.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least eight years of relevant experience in manufacturing engineering and new product development, with demonstrated ownership of physical products from concept through production.
  • Advanced hands-on experience with 3D modeling software, preferably SolidWorks, including detailed components, complex assemblies, drawings, tolerance analysis, and simulation.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and design constraints, including metals, thermoplastics, rubber, molding, and fabrication.
  • Experience with prototyping methods, product testing, design validation, and technical problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to move mechanical products through design, prototype, validation, gate review, manufacturing readiness, and production.
  • Experience designing or validating products against plumbing codes, published standards, ISO procedures, or closely related regulated-product requirements.
  • Experience developing prototypes, test protocols, root-cause analyses, and corrective design iterations.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, written and verbal communication, and the ability to manage multiple projects with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and shifting priorities.
  • Willingness to travel periodically to vendors, customer locations, installation sites, and testing resources for project support.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical plumbing products, including faucets, showerheads, shower valves, and plumbing fittings, into functional and manufacturable solutions.
  • Translate product concepts into detailed components and complex assemblies that meet performance, cost, quality, and schedule requirements.
  • Apply knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and design constraints to create products that can be produced reliably and competitively.
  • Evaluate new technologies, materials, and design approaches that improve performance, reduce cost, or respond to emerging market needs.
  • Use 3D modeling and simulation tools to optimize product designs and support sound engineering decisions.
  • Plan and obtain prototypes to test fit, function, performance, durability, and manufacturability.
  • Develop test equipment and protocols that support internal quality requirements and applicable published codes and standards.
  • Analyze test results, identify root causes, and refine designs until requirements are met.
  • Support product-related technical investigations with vendors, customers, installation sites, and outside testing or certification resources as needed.
  • Prepare layouts, drawings, bills of material, engineering specifications, cost studies, and other product documentation for proposals and manufacturing orders.
  • Maintain accurate engineering-system information and follow applicable ISO quality procedures.
  • Partner with Sourcing, Quality, Manufacturing, Operations, and Product Management to move designs toward production and commercial readiness.
  • Communicate project status, decisions, risks, and next steps clearly to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects and provide support for related NPD, production, and engineering priorities as needed.
