About The Position

The CVICU (pediatric cardiovascular intensive care unit) at Levine Children's Hospital is an ICU that just recently expanded to a 20-bed capacity! This high acuity unit is currently ranked #8 in the country for Best Children's Hospital for Cardiology and Heart Surgery by U.S. News and World Report for 2025-2026. The staffing ratio is usually 2:1, 1:1, or 1:2 dependent on acuity and we care for a wide range of ages, from neonate to 18 years of age. Patient population includes the following: pre-op and post-surgical repair of congenital heart defects; heart transplants; ventricular assist devices; acquired heart disease; ECMO; CRRT; etc. Patients are monitored very closely until stable enough to be transferred to our Cardiac Progressive unit on the 8th floor.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in nursing
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association

Responsibilities

  • As a skilled and compassionate RN, you will play a pivotal role in providing and coordinating comprehensive patient care through the nursing process to deliver safe, therapeutic care in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Using evidence-based practice, clinical decision making, compassion, and skills communication while leading efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience across the continuum.
