Atrium Health Behavioral Health Unit is a 20-bed inpatient psychiatric unit featuring both private and semi-private patient rooms. We provide compassionate, patient-centered care to adults experiencing acute mental health crises, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, psychosis, substance use disorders, and suicidal ideation. Safety is our number one priority, and every member of our team plays an essential role in maintaining a therapeutic, structured, and secure environment for both patients and staff. Our unit utilizes a team nursing approach, meaning we work together to care for the same patient population rather than assigning individual patient loads to specific nurses. This collaborative model promotes communication, teamwork, and continuity of care while ensuring that every patient benefits from the collective expertise of the entire treatment team. We work closely with psychiatrists, advanced practice providers, behavioral health clinicians, psychotherapists, recreational therapy, peer support staff, and nursing staff to provide a multidisciplinary approach to treatment and recovery. One of the things that makes our unit special is our culture. We often describe ourselves as a family, and we take great pride in supporting one another both professionally and personally. Teamwork is more than a buzzword here; it is the foundation of how we care for our patients and each other. Our strong sense of camaraderie has contributed to a low staff turnover rate, with our longest-tenured teammate having dedicated 28 years to our unit. Many of our staff members choose to build long-term careers here because of the supportive environment and meaningful work we do every day. Behavioral Health nursing offers the opportunity to develop strong assessment, communication, crisis intervention, de-escalation, and therapeutic relationship skills while making a lasting impact in the lives of patients and families. Perks of Atrium Health include professional development opportunities, shared governance, recognition and rewards programs, educational assistance, career advancement pathways, and comprehensive benefits. The ideal candidate is compassionate, adaptable, accountable, and committed to providing exceptional behavioral health care. If you are looking for a team that feels like family, values patient safety above all else, and is dedicated to helping patients through some of their most challenging moments, we look forward to welcoming you to our team.
