New Graduate Registered Nurse (RN) - 9A Medicine/Oncology
About The Position
We are recruiting for a mission-driven New Graduate Registered Nurse (RN) - 9A Medicine/Oncology to join our team! At Denver Health, purpose isn’t just something we believe in—it’s something we live every day, for life’s journey. The 9A Med/Surg Telemetry Medicine/Surgical Oncology (9 East) unit is an innovative unit where nurses obtain an Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Provider credential and administer chemotherapy to inpatients. This unit allows staff to work at the highest level of licensure and certification. Since June of 2020, 9A has been caring for COVID-19 patients and excels in high acuity medical protocols developed during the pandemic. 9A is often seen as a pipeline to critical care, the Emergency Department, and other departments within the hospital due to the unique skills learned while caring for 9A patients. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5 and the CNA-to-patient ratio is 1:12 most days. Under general supervision, the RN adheres to the American Nurses Association (ANA) standards of professional nursing and performance, and the ANA Code of Ethics to provide care to all healthcare consumers. The RN applies critical thinking, evidence-based practices, and competence to collaborate with the health care team to promote excellence in healthcare consumer safety and quality outcomes. The RN utilizes the Theory of Human Caring and Caritas in daily practice. We understand the support needed for a new nurse to be successful. With this in mind, we offer a 12-month Nurse Residency Program that provides monthly education classes and hands-on clinical experiences, designed to ease the transition from student to practicing professional nurse. Our program builds on the knowledge and skills acquired in nursing education programs. This residency program is accredited with distinction from ANCC (the American Nurse Credentialing Center).
Requirements
- Associate's Degree Required
- less than 1 year of experience
- BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required
- RN-Registered Nurse - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required
- Adherence to Standards of Professional Nursing Practice/ Process / Performance [ANA Standards addendum- signed] and accrediting body standards.
- Ensures all duties, responsibilities and competencies are conducted in a manner that is effective and appropriate to patients/clients to who care/ service is being provided.
- Demonstrates knowledge and applicability of the principles of growth and development over the life span, as well as demonstrating the ability to assess data reflecting the patient’s status and interpreting appropriate cultural information of the patient(s) to whom care/ services is being delivered/provided.
- Employee has completed and met their clinical competency standards
- Ability to use medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
- Skilled in maintaining effective working relationship with patients, employees, and the public.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Ability to interpret adapt and apply guidelines and procedures
- Ability to communicate clearly.
- Microsoft Office Suite required.

Responsibilities
- Assess the needs of individuals, families and/or communities to identify potential health or safety problems (15%)
