New Grad Software Engineer, Routing

Nuro•Mountain View, CA
•$132,300 - $198,450

About The Position

Nuro is a physical AI company developing Level 4 autonomous driving technology. The Product Engineering team builds the software that Nuro's vehicles, operators, and partners depend on daily. This includes the on-road experience of the fleet and the routing engine that determines vehicle paths. The On-Road Experience team focuses on internal tools and platform systems for managing, monitoring, and maintaining the autonomous vehicle fleet, directly impacting user-facing features and operational efficiency. The Routing team develops critical services for route determination, simulation tools for strategy, and works on optimizing routes and ETAs. Product Engineers on either team will design, build, and ship full-stack applications, backend services, APIs, and tools that enable fleet operations, monitoring, and decision-making. They will also contribute to frontend architecture and collaborate closely with Product, UX, Operations, and other stakeholders to define requirements and deliver new user experiences, owning features end-to-end.

Requirements

  • Strong foundation in software fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, and either web fundamentals (HTML, CSS, browser APIs) or server-side programming (Go, Java, Python, or C++).
  • Experience (through coursework, internships, or personal projects) building applications with React and TypeScript, or building real-time, server-side systems.
  • Understand how to build and consume RESTful or gRPC APIs.
  • Familiarity with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL).
  • Some exposure to cloud infrastructure (GCP or AWS).
  • Comfortable working across the stack, and eager to grow into whichever end of it your team needs most.
  • Wide range of technical interests, love learning new technologies, and are a quick learner.
  • Passion for making lives easier for the people who rely on your work.
  • Instinct for making the right tradeoffs.
  • Care about users and like working closely with product and design to build the best experience.
  • Great communicator, excited to collaborate with PMs, UX researchers, other engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders on product requirements and designs.
  • Impact-driven, care deeply that your work makes a significant impact on the lives of millions of people.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, completed or in progress (new grad / early-career candidates welcome, no professional experience required).

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with real-time data systems: WebSockets, Pub/Sub, streaming pipelines.
  • Experience with Protocol Buffers and gRPC, or RPC frameworks like Thrift.
  • Exposure to Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, or infrastructure-as-code.
  • Experience with routing algorithms, map data, or graph data structures.
  • Background or coursework in the autonomous vehicle, robotics, logistics, or automotive industry.
  • Experience working with partner or third-party API integrations.
  • Interest in frontend platform work: design systems, shared component libraries, and developer tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and ship full-stack applications using React, TypeScript, and modern web development practices.
  • Develop backend services and APIs that integrate with onboard vehicle systems, cloud infrastructure, and external partner platforms.
  • Build tools that enable fleet monitoring, vehicle health tracking, maintenance workflows, and operational decision-making.
  • Contribute to frontend architecture decisions, component libraries, and shared platform patterns used across the organization.
  • Build and scale backend systems for the Routing team, including designing microservices, optimizing routing algorithms, and understanding road network graphs.
  • Build software modules written in C++ that operate onboard the vehicle to generate routes, receive live map updates, and interface with motion planning.
  • Build monitoring and analytics infrastructure that supports routing performance and ETA accuracy.
  • Work on scalable traffic management and simulation tools that shape the company's strategy for robot deployment and business expansion.
  • Work closely with Product, UX, Operations, and cross-functional stakeholders to define requirements and deliver new user experiences.
  • Own features end-to-end: scoping, implementation, testing, deployment, and iteration based on user feedback.
