About The Position

This position is for a New Graduate Registered Nurse (RN) in the Milford Regional Emergency Department, participating in a Transition to Practice Orientation Program for newly licensed nurses. UMass Memorial Health emphasizes that 'everyone is a caregiver,' highlighting the importance of each role in providing exceptional patient care, academic excellence, and research. The program aims to support the professional growth and development of newly licensed nurses under the guidance of nursing education and leadership teams. Opportunities are available for positions within the Emergency Department starting in August 2026. The program requires commitment to 32-40 hours/week for the first four weeks of orientation. Over the first three months and beyond, nurses will complete specialized courses including dysrhythmia interpretation, acute care nursing, and advanced life support (ACLS), pediatric life support (PALS), and neonatal resuscitation (NRP) as appropriate to the specialty. Key components of the program include Clinical Connections for periodic check-ins with Staff Educators and Professional Development Days for networking, emotional support, team building, and addressing essential topics for continued growth.

Requirements

  • Current Massachusetts Nursing licensure and registration.
  • BLS is a requirement for every RN within 30 days of hire.
  • ACLS required in select areas (Gannett, MP1, ICU, ED, Cath Lab, Endo, IR, PACU) within 6 months or first scheduled course offering whichever is sooner.
  • PALS required in select areas (PACU, ED) within 6 months or first scheduled course offering whichever is sooner.
  • NRP required in select areas (Maternity) within 6 months or first scheduled course offering whichever is sooner.
  • Thorough knowledge of the discipline of Nursing.
  • Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the Nursing Process for the delivery and management of patient’s care from Admission to Discharge, appropriate to the developmental age of the patient population.
  • Performs patient assessment/reassessment according to standard procedure.
  • Develops and coordinates individual plan of care including discharge planning.
  • Directs, supervises, coordinates and evaluate nursing care within assigned clinical setting.
  • Delegates appropriately to others in accordance with job description and competency level.
