About The Position

We are seeking a compassionate, patient-focused, and highly organized Oncology Nurse Coordinator to serve as a primary clinical contact for patients and caregivers throughout their healthcare journey. This role is ideal for an experienced nurse who excels in care coordination, patient advocacy, communication, and delivering an exceptional patient experience. The Oncology Nurse Coordinator serves as the primary clinical contact for patients and caregivers, offering personalized support throughout the healthcare journey.

Requirements

  • License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York.
  • Certification or eligibility for Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time oncology nursing experience or critical care experience; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time medical-surgical experience in an acute care setting and completion of Roswell Park Nursing orientation with the ability to function independently at a satisfactory level for three (3) months as a Nurse I at Roswell Park; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and the equivalent of three (3) years of full-time medical-surgical experience in an acute care setting; or
  • Associate’s degree in Nursing and the equivalent of three (3) years of full-time oncology nursing experience or critical care experience; or
  • Associate’s degree in Nursing, the equivalent of three (3) years of full-time medical-surgical experience in an acute care setting and completion of Roswell Park Nursing orientation with the ability to function independently at a satisfactory level for three (3) months as a Nurse I at Roswell Park; or
  • Associate’s degree in Nursing and the equivalent of five (5) years of full-time medical-surgical experience in an acute care setting.
  • Incumbents must obtain and maintain applicable certification, as required by area of specialty and outlined in Departmental procedures, within eighteen (18) months of appointment to this position and as a condition of continued employment.
  • As a condition of continued employment, incumbents must obtain certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) within six (6) months of their appointment to this title.
  • Incumbents must complete twelve (12) cancer-related contact hours per calendar year unless certified by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC).
  • Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited school, college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of five years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in oncology, neurosurgery, and/or surgical services.
  • Experience with telephone triage, patient assessment, symptom management, and care coordination is essential.
  • Strong clinical judgment and the ability to independently assess patient needs, prioritize concerns, and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver exceptional patient-centered care.
  • A professional nursing certification, such as the Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) credential or a related specialty certification, is preferred.
  • Experience serving in a nurse coordinator or similar role, including patient education, treatment coordination, scheduling of services, and facilitating communication among providers, patients, and families, is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates multidisciplinary care and ensures efficient, effective communication among providers.
  • Utilizes the nursing process to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care.
  • Acts as the central point of contact for patient and caregiver inquiries related to care plans.
  • Proactively anticipates patient needs to ensure timely navigation. Assesses learning needs and provides education to promote adherence to established care plans.
  • Enhances the patient experience by delivering exceptional customer service and promptly addressing concerns.
  • Performs all responsibilities aligned with the Nurse II role, with additional emphasis on care coordination, communication, and patient advocacy.
  • Interacts with patients via phone, virtual visits, and the patient portal to ensure care is well coordinated.
