The Neurosurgical Advanced Practice Professional (APP) is a physician-dependent practitioner responsible for the medical and surgical management of patients admitted to the Neurosurgery Service. This role involves working under the supervision of the attending Neurosurgeon, managing patients from the Emergency Room phase through their admission, including performing advanced diagnostic and therapeutic tasks. The APP will conduct History and Physical examinations, write admission and progress notes, manage daily rounds, and participate in consultations and performance improvement meetings. This position requires responding to ED consults within 30 minutes, managing patient care in the ED, dictating various medical records, and communicating with the OR Scheduler. The APP may also assist the Neurosurgeon in the OR if necessary. Responsibilities include rounding and managing inpatients, developing treatment plans, and exercising physician-delegated prescriptive authority. The role also involves patient and family education, responding to telephone inquiries, communicating with referring physicians, and attending CME seminars to maintain licensure. Maintaining BLS certification and demonstrating effective judgment with the neurosurgical patient population are essential. The APP will use Oracle Health EHR.
