About The Position

Inova Neurosurgery is seeking a dedicated PRN Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Acute Care Physician Assistant (NP/PA) to join their team at the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus. Requirements

  • Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice or graduate of a post masters certificate program for nurse practitioners, OR certificate from an accredited Council of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs/Schools, American College of Nurse Midwives, American Association of Colleges of Nursing or National League for Nursing.
  • For Physician Assistants: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program and certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) upon start.
  • Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.
  • If Nurse Practitioner: RN Compact License (depending on State of primary residence).
  • License (or eligibility for) as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Practice Agreement signed by sponsoring/supervising physician(s).
  • Written Scope of Practice/Protocol signed by the supervising physician.
  • Drug Enforcement Administration License (if prescribing controlled substances).
  • Ability to successfully complete the credentialing process by third-party payors.
  • Ability to be enrolled as a CMS Medicare/Medicaid payor.
  • Successful completion of credentialing for Medical Staff membership and appropriate clinical privileges.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one year of experience in inpatient neurosurgery, spine, or orthopedics.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all aspects of the service, including daily rounds and progress notes.
  • Handle emergency room and inpatient consults, admissions, and discharges.
  • Order and interpret labs and radiologic studies.
  • Field phone calls from inpatient nurses.
  • Perform multidisciplinary care coordination and patient education.
  • May perform procedures within the scope of practice, such as EVD and ICP monitor placement.
  • Opportunity for first-assisting in the OR, as service needs permit.
  • Work directly with neurosurgeons.
