About The Position

Insight Hospital & Medical Center is seeking an experienced Neurology Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our growing neuroscience program. The Nurse Practitioner will work collaboratively with a full-time neurologist to provide high-quality neurological care across both outpatient and inpatient settings. The role will primarily support outpatient neurology clinics while also assisting with inpatient neurological consultations. Clinical responsibilities may extend to multiple Insight locations throughout Chicago and the surrounding Chicagoland suburbs, based on patient and program needs. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in neurology, strong clinical assessment skills, and the ability to independently manage patients within the Nurse Practitioner scope of practice while collaborating closely with the supervising neurologist and multidisciplinary care team.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Current and unrestricted Illinois Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license or ability to obtain licensure prior to employment.
  • Current national Nurse Practitioner certification through an appropriate certifying organization.
  • Current Illinois Registered Nurse license as required.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of clinical Nurse Practitioner experience preferred, with experience in neurology, neuroscience, or a closely related specialty strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of neurological assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Excellent clinical judgment and ability to recognize changes in patient condition requiring physician escalation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Ability and willingness to travel between assigned locations within Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience as a Neurology Nurse Practitioner.
  • Experience in both outpatient neurology and inpatient neurological consultation services.
  • Experience managing patients with epilepsy, stroke, headache, dementia, movement disorders, neuropathy, or other neurological conditions.
  • Experience working within a hospital or integrated health system.
  • Experience with electronic medical record systems.
  • Five or more years of advanced practice or neurology-related clinical experience is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with a broad range of neurological conditions in the outpatient setting.
  • Conduct comprehensive neurological histories and physical examinations.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising neurologist.
  • Manage established neurology patients, including follow-up visits, medication management, and monitoring of treatment response.
  • Participate in new-patient evaluations as appropriate.
  • Assist with inpatient neurology consultations under the supervision and clinical direction of a full-time neurologist.
  • Review laboratory results, imaging, EEGs, and other diagnostic studies relevant to neurological care.
  • Order appropriate diagnostic testing, laboratory studies, imaging, and medications within scope of practice and organizational policy.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding neurological diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
  • Identify changes in patient condition requiring physician involvement, escalation of care, or hospitalization.
  • Coordinate care with primary care physicians, specialists, nursing staff, therapists, case management, and other members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and complete documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Support continuity of care between inpatient, outpatient, and post-discharge settings.
  • Participate in quality-improvement initiatives and development of the growing neurology and neuroscience service line.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, clinical standards, regulatory requirements, and evidence-based practice.
  • Provide coverage at additional Insight clinics or healthcare locations throughout Chicago and the surrounding suburbs as operational needs require.
