About The Position

The Neuromoimaging Research Data Analyst will provide quantitative, computational, and data management support for a multidisciplinary neuromodulation research program within the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The research program uses advanced neuroscience methods, including functional and structural magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI/MRI), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), neuronavigation, clinical assessments, behavioral measures, and other multimodal approaches to investigate brain circuitry and develop and evaluate neuromodulation interventions for psychiatric and related conditions. Working as part of Neuromodulation Research, the Research Data Analyst will work under the Neuromodulation Chair, and in collaboration with faculty investigators, research professionals, clinicians, statisticians, data scientists, and trainees. The position will support the organization, processing, quality control, analysis, integration, visualization, and reporting of complex neuroimaging research datasets. Responsibilities will include implementation of established computational workflows, development and maintenance of research datasets and code, statistical and neuroimaging analyses, data quality assurance, preparation of research results, and support for manuscripts, presentations, and grant applications. The position will apply established quantitative methods while developing increasing independence and expertise in neuroimaging, neuromodulation, and reproducible research practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social/behavioral sciences, physical sciences, public health, healthcare, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • 2 years of professional experience in research data analysis, quantitative research, neuroimaging, neuroscience research, biomedical data analysis, statistics, data science, scientific computing, or a closely related area relevant to the work assignment.
  • A combination of education and related technical, military, or paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • An advanced degree (Master’s or Doctorate) may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis if the degree is in a field of study directly related to the work assignment.
  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • Must complete and maintain applicable institutional human-subjects protection, information security, research compliance, MRI safety, and other required training.
  • Must adhere to institutional requirements for access, storage, analysis, transmission, and protection of confidential and sensitive research data.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience analyzing human neuroscience, neuroimaging, clinical research, behavioral, or other complex biomedical research data.
  • Experience with functional and/or structural MRI data processing and analysis and commonly used neuroimaging software or computational workflows.
  • Experience using one or more programming or statistical languages such as Python, R, MATLAB, or related scientific computing tools.

Responsibilities

  • Process and analyze neuroimaging, neuromodulation, behavioral, clinical, and other research datasets using established quantitative and computational methods.
  • Implement statistical analyses under the guidance of senior scientific personnel and investigators.
  • Apply established analysis pipelines to functional and structural MRI data and other neuroscience datasets.
  • Generate summary statistics, derived variables, quantitative measures, and analytic datasets for research projects.
  • Assist with integration of imaging, TMS, neuronavigation, clinical, behavioral, and other multimodal research data.
  • Perform preprocessing and quality assessment of functional and structural MRI data using established software and analysis pipelines.
  • Assist with analyses of brain structure, function, connectivity, and other imaging-derived measures relevant to neuromodulation research.
  • Support processing and analysis of data used for MRI-informed TMS targeting and neuronavigation.
  • Assist with quantitative evaluation of relationships among stimulation targets, imaging measures, treatment parameters, and clinical or behavioral outcomes.
  • Identify data quality issues and consult with senior scientific personnel regarding appropriate resolution or exclusion procedures.
  • Organize, maintain, and document research datasets according to program standards and approved research protocols.
  • Perform routine data quality checks to identify missing, inconsistent, duplicated, out-of-range, or otherwise problematic data.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of data dictionaries, variable definitions, file structures, metadata, and other research documentation.
  • Reconcile information across research data sources and work with study personnel to resolve discrepancies.
  • Support preparation of analysis-ready datasets while maintaining appropriate participant confidentiality and data security.
  • Implement, maintain, and troubleshoot established computational workflows for research data processing and analysis.
  • Write, modify, test, and document code and scripts using programming and scientific computing tools such as Python, R, MATLAB, shell scripting, or related platforms.
  • Use version-control and code-management practices to support reproducibility and collaboration.
  • Assist with automation of repetitive data processing, quality-control, and reporting tasks.
  • Maintain clear documentation of analytical procedures, software versions, processing parameters, and data transformations.
  • Conduct descriptive and inferential statistical analyses under the direction of investigators and senior quantitative personnel.
  • Create tables, figures, dashboards, and other visualizations to communicate research findings and data quality metrics.
  • Assist with interpretation of statistical and quantitative results in collaboration with the Neuromodulation Research Lead Scientist and study investigators.
  • Support exploratory analyses and feasibility assessments for new research questions and grant applications.
  • Prepare figures, tables, data summaries, methods documentation, and other quantitative materials for manuscripts, abstracts, presentations, grant applications, progress reports, and scientific meetings.
  • Assist investigators and senior scientific personnel with responding to data and analysis questions arising during manuscript and grant preparation.
  • Maintain sufficient documentation to support verification and reproducibility of reported research findings.
  • Participate in Neuromodulation Research, research program, and individual study meetings as appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with investigators and research personnel to understand project requirements and translate research questions into defined data and analysis tasks.
  • Provide technical assistance to research team members regarding established data management, processing, analysis, and visualization procedures.
  • Coordinate with research informatics, information technology, imaging, and other institutional resources as needed to resolve routine data or computational issues.
  • Conduct research data activities in accordance with approved protocols, data use requirements, institutional policies, and applicable human-subjects research requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate protections for confidential and sensitive research information.
  • Complete required institutional research, information security, human-subjects protection, MRI safety, and other applicable training.
  • Maintain knowledge of evolving methods, software, and best practices relevant to neuroimaging, neuromodulation, quantitative neuroscience, and reproducible research.
  • Perform other research data and quantitative support duties as assigned.
