About The Position

This position is under the supervision of the NeuroHospitalist Consult Medical Director, Division Chief of Comprehensive Neurology and Neurohospitalist Program, and Chair of the Department of Neurology. The duties of this position are in support of the mission, goals, and objectives of OHSU and the School of Medicine. The incumbent will be scheduled for shift coverage of NeuroHospitalist consult work in-person and tele-health to support OHSU health. Work will include duties for OHSU, Hillsboro Medical Center (HMC) in Hillsboro, Oregon, Adventist Health Center in Portland Oregon, and other community-based hospitals in the state of Oregon within the program. Volume of work and tasks will be assimilated as the program is implemented and growth and scope of services will expand external to OHSU in the future. This program is separate from the NeuroHospitalist Ward (Teaching) service who will staff consults that fall under the responsibility of the residents (ED and ICU consults). There will be 168 shifts per year required which averages to 14 shifts per month – 4 of which should be days and should cross a weekend. Shifts are 12 hours in duration and a combination of weekdays and weekend.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O., and Board Eligible or Board Cerified Neurologist
  • Approved staff privileges at OHSU and associated OHSU Health sites
  • Compliance: Code of conduct, Respect in the workplace, Applicable law, policies, procedures, positions certifying agencies and agreements related to position, department, or OHSU as a whole
  • All duties and responsibilities of the Neurology provider conform to the credentialing process, OHSU Hospital Medical Staff and University Medical Group (UMG) guidelines
  • This position requires undivided effort at the specified FTE level

Responsibilities

  • Respond and assess OHSU consults in-person during day shift and answer OHSU & community hospital consults remotely during night shift.
  • Provide guidance to students/residents on how to provide care and medical recommendations (night only).
  • Assess and treat tele neurology patients via video connection for HMC, AHPL & any other community hospitals within the program.
  • Work in virtual hospital setting, using a video platform within the EHR to conduct urgent care visits.
  • Diagnose and prescribe therapy based on visual assessment and patient-provided subjective data.
  • Route patient to higher level of care as appropriate from the community hospitals.
  • Engage in workflow creation/updates to delineate care between the different Neurology programs while allowing for flexibility to maximize trainee learning.
