The Neurodiagnostic Technologist II ensures electrode application in adherence with the International 10-20 system. They are knowledgeable in EEG performance and recognition of clinically significant events, and follow facility policy and procedures regarding critical test results. This role maintains patient safety by communicating with other patient care support staff during EEG if needed. The technologist continues to learn and apply basic and intermediate EEG waveform recognition, relevant medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, infection control, current HIPPA practices, contraindications for activation procedures, instrumentation, and preparation for use. They perform patient assessments related to care such as electrode fixation, product allergies, movement restrictions, and cognitive functions, and understand the effects of drug and physiological status on monitored activity. The Neurodiagnostic Technologist II communicates appropriately and effectively with the patient and healthcare staff to convey the purpose of the EEG and answer questions regarding the procedure. They understand why and how to maintain correct electrode connections and identify and perform basic and intermediate technical troubleshooting and artifact identification and elimination. This role understands and applies concepts of digital equipment and electrical safety within the EEG unit, and has knowledge of alternate montage protocols and alternate equipment settings and their effects. The Neurodiagnostic Technologist II is familiar with facility policies and procedures for completion of the technical EEG report, charging procedures, and logging the patient into electronic health records. They contact supervisory staff as needed for problems within the EEG unit, stock supplies, and prepare patient rooms for EEG procedures. They perform any other related duties that are consistent with patient and technical care for this level.
